A MORAY gym has received a prestigious award at an awards ceremony in Glasgow.
Wright Fitness, based in Buckie, took home the Community Involvement Award at the Scottish Health and Fitness Awards held at the Hilton Hotel on Thursday, June 30.
The family run facility was chosen for the award by Partick Thistle player Kyle Turner for their commitment to encouraging families to get involved with fitness.
The gym’s fundraising efforts, where they frequently involve the wider community to raise money for charity, also played a major part in winning the award.
Helen and Graeme Wright were delighted to receive the honour.
Helen said: “To be recognised for our efforts means the world.
“When we were chosen as a finalist we felt like a small fish in a very large pond so we are so proud to have put Moray on the map.
“Our community involvement hasn’t just stopped at raising money for charity.
“We’ve also supported the local schools by visiting and providing positive and active sessions during their health weeks as well as recording exercise sessions based on popular children’s books for primary one to three pupils to follow while they weren’t able to attend school.”
Over the past two years, the pair have ramped up their fundraising efforts and have made sure to involve as much of the local community as possible.
That has included completing a series of challenges such as The Kilt Walk, Ironman Challenge and the Virtual London Marathon.
In doing so, they have raised more than £10,000 for charitable causes and have no intention of stopping any time soon.
“We were and still are doing this to bring people together,” Helen said.
“It helps give some people a reason to get up in the morning, communicate and interact when they might not have seen anyone for a while.
“It has been really helpful for people who have felt isolated or needed something to promote general self care and wellbeing, particularly throughout lockdown.”
The gym’s next charity fundraiser will be the Push/Pull 1 million kilos challenge taking place from September 3 to September 4.
Helen added:”We’re encouraging as many people to get involved as possible whether it be from their local gym or at Wright Fitness – every kilo will count to help us reach this monumental amount.”
